Rajasthan’s climate is one of extremes, and Ranthambore is no exception. Understanding how the weather shifts across the open safari season (October–June) helps you pack right and set the right expectations.
Winter (November–February)
Daytime temperatures sit comfortably in the low-to-mid 20s°C, but early mornings — exactly when safaris begin — can drop close to 5–8°C, occasionally colder in December and January. This is the most physically comfortable season to visit overall, though the morning cold in an open jeep catches first-time visitors off guard every year.
Spring / Pre-Summer (March–April)
Temperatures climb steadily through March into the low 30s°C by April. Mornings are pleasant, afternoons start to feel genuinely warm. This transitional period is popular precisely because it balances comfort with improving sighting odds as water sources begin shrinking.
Summer (May–June, until park closure)
This is peak heat — daytime temperatures regularly cross 40°C and can reach 45–48°C in late May. It’s intense, and midday outside a vehicle is genuinely risky without care. But this is also, counterintuitively, prime tiger-sighting season, since animals concentrate around the dwindling waterholes. Hydration, sun protection and an early or late safari slot (avoiding the harshest midday heat) are essential.
Monsoon (July–September): Park Closed
The core zones close to tourists entirely from July through September to let the forest recover and to protect breeding wildlife. Some buffer zone experiences may remain open in parts of the reserve, but the main tiger safari zones are inaccessible during this period.
Quick Reference Table
- Oct–Nov: Pleasant, greenery still lush, sightings improving
- Dec–Jan: Cold mornings (pack warm layers), clear skies, good sightings
- Feb–Mar: Mild, increasingly reliable sightings as water sources shrink
- Apr–May: Hot, best sighting odds of the year, early/late slots essential
- Jun: Very hot, last chance before closure, dramatic dry landscape
If you can only travel in one specific month, tell us — we’ll set honest expectations about both comfort and sighting odds for that window rather than a generic “anytime is great” answer.
