Safaris inside Ranthambore National Park run on a permit system managed by the Rajasthan Forest Department. You cannot simply show up at the gate and go in — every seat on every safari needs a confirmed permit tied to your ID. Here’s how the process works.

Step 1: Decide Your Dates and Vehicle Type

Permits are released for specific dates, slots (morning/evening) and vehicle type (Gypsy or Canter). Popular dates in December through April can sell out days or weeks in advance, so lock your dates early.

Step 2: Check Zone and Slot Availability

Availability changes by the hour during peak booking windows. Rather than refreshing a government portal repeatedly, most travellers now use a local safari desk (like ours) that tracks live availability across zones and vehicle types.

Step 3: Submit Traveller Details

Every guest’s name and a valid photo ID (passport for foreign nationals, any government ID for Indian nationals) must be registered against the permit before entry — the forest department checks this at the gate, so details need to be accurate.

Step 4: Payment and Confirmation

Once a permit is confirmed, payment covers the vehicle, gate/entry fee, and guide charge. You’ll receive a confirmation with your zone, slot, gate number and vehicle registration once it’s finalised — keep a copy (digital or printed) to show at the gate.

Step 5: Arrival on Safari Day

Arrive at the designated gate at least 30 minutes before your slot. Gates close on time — the forest department does not hold vehicles for late arrivals, since the whole convoy departs together.

The single biggest mistake we see travellers make is booking too close to their travel date during peak season and finding every zone sold out. Book 2–4 weeks ahead for December–March travel.
